About ShutterOdo
A free shutter count checker that works for the cameras people actually buy used, and keeps your photos on your own computer.
Why it exists
Checking a used camera's shutter count shouldn't cost money or mean uploading photos to a stranger's server. Most free tools only read photo files, which leaves out most Canon DSLRs, and the tools that do read Canon bodies charge for it.
ShutterOdo reads the count from a photo for Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Fujifilm and newer Canon bodies, and asks older Canon bodies directly over USB. Both happen inside your browser.
What we promise
- Free. No account, no limits, no paid tier for the basic check.
- Private. Photos are read on your device and never uploaded. The USB connection only reads.
- Honest about support. Every camera in the camera list is labeled tested, supported, reported or untested, so you know what to expect before you try.
Who makes it
ShutterOdo is built by Owlgo LLC, an independent software studio in the Boston area. It's paid for by affiliate links to MPB, a used camera marketplace, which appear after a reading.
